Grandma Calhoun's Molasses Cookies by

Best stored in a glass cookie jar with a noisy lid - so you can hear when your kids try to sneak a cookie before dinner!
Ingredients
1 cup Sugar
1 cup shortening (part butter)
2 eggs
1 cup molasses
3-1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup
Sugar
1 cup
shortening (part butter)
2
eggs
1 cup
molasses
3
-1/2 cups flour
1
teaspoon baking soda
1
teaspoon ginger
1/2
teaspoon salt
Instructions
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Beat in molasses. Sift dry ingredients and add to sugar mix. Let stand 2 hours at room temperature. Roll small balls in sugar. Bake 375°-400°, 8-10 minutes.
Notes: This is a very sticky mix - it is easier to drop spoonfuls into a bowl of sugar and roll balls instead of rolling them in your hands. If you want a pool of sugar in the middle like grandma's cookies, make a small depression in the ball and fill with a little more sugar. Do not overcook - this is a soft cookie.
